General description

Performance management and performance appraisal are an integral part of the manager’s and team leader’s role.   • Identifying the benefits for the member of staff, manager and organisation
  • Constraints to effective performance appraisal
  • Role of planning, supporting and concept of continuous reviews
  • The process of performance appraisal i.e. work targets, assessing performance, role of competencies and behavioural indicators, importance of documentation etc.


Day 2 – Preparation for the performance appraisal

  • The pre-appraisal planning
  • Managing good performance
  • Dealing with poor performance
  • Keys to an effective discussion
  • Working with performance appraisal forms
  • Annual performance plan
  • Performance and development appraisal forms including end of year plan and next years plan
  • Overall Individual Competency Profile and Potential
  • Skills practice using case studies with observation and feedback
  • Learning review and making an individual action plan
